I've had the privilege of knowing Tim for 14+ years. When I first met him, I had been stuck in a rut with my playing and was actively auditioning various guitar instructors all around San Diego. Although there were some competent guitar players out there, I just felt like I needed more. I wanted to find an instructor who was not only a great player but someone who knew how to teach. Most of all, I needed to be inspired. Just a few minutes into our lesson together, it was clear to me that Tim was going to provide the exact inspiration I had been searching for.
With Tim's help I have reached technical skills on the guitar that I only dreamed of previously. He has opened the door of jazz fusion wide open and helped me explore the techniques of some of the greatest guitar players on the planet.
His dedication to teaching is evident in everything he does. From figuring out your goals, to tailoring material and providing printed copies, to recording each lesson, and recapping previous lessons to ensure progress. And, fortunately for me since I now live 500 miles away, he will even provide the same level of instruction via Skype!
I'd be lying if I said I stopped searching for instructors after Tim...it's my opinion that as a dedicated student of guitar I will never stop learning and actively seeking instructors. I even took advantage of taking some lessons with the great Greg Howe himself. And yet, I can still say unequivocally that you will be hard pressed to find another instructor as competent, thorough, and knowledgeable as Tim. Even though I will continue seeking out instructors, I am certain Tim will remain one of my greatest assets. He is a true mentor and a valued friend!
